2023-2026 fellowship winner: Elisa Marmocchi<\/h2>\n

La dr.ssa Elisa Marmocchi<\/strong> worked on the project “Development of immuno-oncology strategies for immunologically ‘cold’ tumors”<\/em>, in the Armenise-Harvard Cancer Biology & Genetics, Laboratory, direct by Prof. Andrea Lunardi.<\/span><\/p>\n

This project aims to develop immuno-oncological strategies for \u2018cold\u2019 tumours<\/strong> \u2013 tumours that manage to remain invisible or impervious to the immune system.<\/span><\/p>\n

These include prostate cancer<\/strong><\/span>, which is the most common cancer among men worldwide<\/strong><\/span> \u2013 representing around 15% of all cancers diagnosed in men \u2013 and the second leading cause of cancer-related death in men<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

What does Elisa\u2019s project involve?<\/em><\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h5>\n

Immuno-oncology has changed cancer treatment, but it doesn\u2019t work for everyone yet. Some tumors in fact are \u2018immunologically cold\u2019 – they are able to hide from our immune cells, avoiding attack. <\/span><\/p>\n

Thanks to the Pezcoller-Marina Larcher Fogazzaro PhD Fellowship<\/strong><\/span>, Dr. Elisa Marmocchi, together with the team led by Professors Lunardi, Romanel and Grandi (CIBIO, University of Trento), in close collaboration with Dr. Ternette (University of Oxford), is working to overcome this challenge with a two-level strategy:<\/span><\/p>\n
