{"id":9835,"date":"2026-08-04T13:26:44","date_gmt":"2026-08-04T13:26:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pezcoller.it\/interview-with-three-researchers-awarded-pezcoller-fellowships\/"},"modified":"2026-08-24T09:10:27","modified_gmt":"2026-08-24T09:10:27","slug":"interview-with-three-researchers-awarded-pezcoller-fellowships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pezcoller.it\/en\/interview-with-three-researchers-awarded-pezcoller-fellowships\/","title":{"rendered":"Interview with Three Researchers Awarded Pezcoller Fellowships"},"content":{"rendered":"&#13;\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Lucrezia Camicia<\/strong> is a researcher at the CRO in Aviano, in Veneto, where she studies a specific molecule (multimerin-2) that normally maintains blood vessels healthy, but is degraded in tumors, particularly <strong>ovarian <\/strong>and <strong>colon <\/strong>cancers: &#8220;I received the fellowship right after my PhD, and it was <strong>a crucial moment to give continuity to my research<\/strong> [\u2026]. Without it, I probably wouldn\u2019t have been able to carry out this project.&#8221; <\/p>&#13;\n<p> <\/p>&#13;\n<p><strong>Maria Valeria Giuli<\/strong> from La Sapienza University, Rome \u2014 who is currently in the second year of her <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pezcoller.it\/en\/the-pezcoller-foundation-sic-ferruccio-and-elena-bernardi-fellowship\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pezcoller fellowship in memory of Ferruccio and Elena Bernardi<\/a> \u2014 <\/strong><\/em>explains why this type of funding is essential: &#8220;Within universities, securing a tenure-track position is very difficult, and professors often lack sufficient financial resources to retain researchers after their PhD. <strong>Without <\/strong>fellowships and external funding, we as researchers would often lack the means to carry on with our work.&#8221;<\/p>&#13;\n<p> <\/p>&#13;\n<p><strong>Elisa Marmocchi,<\/strong> on the other hand, is a PhD student at the CIBIO Department of the University of Trento, where, thanks to the <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pezcoller.it\/en\/2023-2026-fellowship-winner-elisa-marmocchi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">3-year Marina Larcher Fogazzaro PhD fellowship <\/a><\/em><\/strong>she studies &#8220;cold&#8221; tumors such as prostate cancer:<br\/>&#8220;We are looking for a way to recruit the immune system against the tumor. We work to identify new molecules present on tumor cells [\u2026], called antigens, which could become the target for a therapeutic vaccine.&#8221;  <\/p>&#13;\n<p> <\/p>&#13;\n\r\n<div
