The president of the Pezcoller Foundation, Enzo Galligioni, announced the news during a press conference held at the Foundation’s new headquarters in Palazzo Bortolazzi Larcher Fogazzaro.
«Douglas Hanahan was awarded his fundamental discoveries in cancer research that have had a far-reaching translational impact» explained president Galligioni «Through the generation and characterization of innovative mouse models, he defined multi-step tumorigenesis — including the fact that cancer’s malignant traits, such as invasiveness, metastasis, and immune system evasion, also depend on the forced cooperation between healthy cells surrounding the tumor and the cancer cells themselves. His work, both innovative and multidisciplinary, has led to new therapeutic strategies and drugs».
The traditional Award Ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 10 o’clock in Trento, in the presence of authorities and representatives of the Trentino scientific, academic, and business communities.
