THE PEZCOLLER FOUNDATION

The purpose of our Foundation is to promote and support cancer research. But why research is so important?
Who has gone through a serious illness knows that any hope for cure, comes from research.
Cure or long term survival are possible nowadays for many tumors, thanks to the incredible advancements in biological knowledge, disease prevention and therapy, that are all coming from cancer research.
Research is not the solitary achievement of a single scientist in the laboratory, but the results of the efforts of many, all over the world, matching their findings, sharing results and stimulating each other.
This is the only way they can prove that a theory is not just another opinion, but a better understanding of a phenomenon that in the end can lead to save more lives
This was the essence of the project of our founder Dr. Alessio Pezcoller.

THE GREAT SCIENTISTS IN CANCER RESEARCH
Recognizing each year the most significant contributions in cancer research, is the strategy of the Foundation to highlight exceptional achievements in the fight against cancer.

WHY CANCER RESEARCH IS SO IMPORTANT TO US

AWARDS TO THE BEST CANCER SCIENTISTS

Cancer research is first and foremost done by researchers. That's why our first commitment is to reward the most deserving scientists, those who have contributed the most to the advancement of the fight against cancer.
In many cases, our awards are the crowning achievement of a career of dedication, and in four cases have anticipated the Nobel Prize, the highest world recognition.
The awards represent an important encouragement to excellence for young researchers as well: they are the future - not just the present - of research.
The selection of the most deserving is done in collaboration with the most prestigious and respected scientific societies.

SCHOLARSHIPS TO SUPPORT CANCER RESEARCH

It is difficult for everyone to achieve prestigious results in research, but even great scientists have been able to make great discoveries thanks to those who have trusted them and put them in a position to work.
That's why our Foundation strongly supports cancer research through scholarships for young researchers
We collaborate in this with the most prestigious research organizations, to select the most promising researchers and research projects.

EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES FOR CANCER RESEARCHERS

Researchers need not only resources and grants, but also to meet with each other, to compare their data, discuss problems and results, test their ideas, gathering suggestions and criticisms.
That's why the Pezcoller Foundation annually organizes the scientific conferences called "Pezcoller Symposia", in which young researchers have the opportunity to meet some of the best researchers in the world, discuss the issues of the symposium, receive and sometimes suggest new insights and perspectives of research.

RAISING PUBLIC AWARENESS ABOUT CANCER RESEARCH

Research, like politics and economics, needs public support and that is why the Pezcoller Foundation is also committed to increase people's attention to health issues, particularly cancer.
Researchers and research institutions are part of the society and it is essential that the whole community understands and appreciates their importance, in view of saving more lives and improving the quality of life through prevention, effective treatments and precision strategies.
