1982, March 29, official recognition by the President of the Italian Republic
August 1986, settlement of the first Board of Directors, which established:
- A biennial international award for cancer research
- The International Selection Committee, chaired by Prof. Umberto Veronesi
1988, first International Award to Vincent De Vita, at the presence of Prof. Pezcoller
1989, first Pezcoller Symposium, aimed to promote interaction among top scientists working at the cutting edge of basic oncological sciences
1994, establishment of the FECS - PEZCOLLER RECOGNITION for contribution to oncology. A biennial award, to recognize a single health professional for dedication of his/her professional life to the fight against cancer. (Discontinued)
1997, Strategic Partnership with the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR),
- formal agreement executed on April 13, 1997
- the award becomes annual and named PEZCOLLER FOUNDATION – AACR INTERNATIONAL AWARD FOR CANCER RESEARCH
